Beauty photography is traditionally where the model is the sole focus of the image. It might be to show the make up product or hair. For me beauty is about you - the subject of the photo.
But there's what I call recipes that make a good beauty shot. Starting with you we add a make up artist. Then maybe a hair stylist. Clothing to match the style of the shoot, maybe some props.
Add to that the right light, angles and then tones and texture in post processing. Each of us are different and that's just how I look at beauty.
Fashion... I think of Vogue and other high end magazines with amazing models, locations and photographers. But sometimes regular people just want to look a bit different. A touch of glamour, maybe being pampered with a make over, hair styling and then trying different outfits. Some images here are from personal and fun projects, some are from work shoots that sort of came under the banner of a fashion shoot.
I only share a few ... more of my work on my gallery site here...
Adelaide Weddings at Affordable Prices. Quality doesn't need to cost you thousands.
Something I've only done a few times but love the art and fun of burlesque peformers.
here's something about photographing musicians. They have energy and a passion for what they do and it shows in photos. I love doing it... here's a few from different people I know .
Funny thing about photography, is you start to notice light. You're hanging out with friends and they say something like - take a look at (insert celebrity name here) and I'm looking at the way light falls on her face and wishing I had my camera.
Here's a few natural light photos I like.
Dancers are like cosplayers and actresses... they have a natural tendency to pose. Must be the training they go through. They know just how to hold their body to create amazing shapes. There's energy and emotion too.
I really want to do more dance photography - it's an awesome creative outlet and pushes you to "see" the image as a whole.
So many of my photo friendships have formed around Cosplay. It's an art where people spend countless hours creating detailed replications of costumes from movies, TV, books, comics etc.
Some cosplayers are simply amazing in their dedication to their craft. I've been fortunate to photograph a few of them.
There's something about those 50s style pinups and beauty photos that still are popular today.
